Critical Raw Materials 1 day training course

Presented by Prof Alan R Butcher, an authority on the Critical Minerals, Energy Transition and the Circular Economy, he will take you through the entire value chain, from mineral exploration, to mineral processing, manufacturing and traceability of critical raw materials. 30 years of experience in minerals and mining and now Chief Scientist with Hafren Scientific Ltd.

What are Critical Raw Materials, where are they, & why do we need them?

Join us for a special 1-day event that will explain which minerals, metals, and materials are needed for the Green Energy transition, and the opportunities these present for the continued development of the Region.

Topics to be covered include: What are CRMs and battery minerals? Why are Sn, W, Cu, Ni, Zn & Pb are all key to the future stewardship of the planet? And why does gold continue to drive mineral investment even though it is not considered critical? We will briefly cover Cratonic basement, sedimentary metalliferous deposits, ophiolites, sediments, soils, and till screening as areas for mineral discovery.

The course will also touch on analytical techniques for the comprehensive and accurate characterisation of CRMs including geochemistry, mineralogy, and texture. Topics such as how to scope an exploration survey, how to sample, the role of lab and field techniques, data QC and QA, and contemporary data analytics, with the future likely to include ML and AI.
